Advanced options for archive extracting

File Roller offers different options while extracting an archive. You can see these options in the file chooser dialog, which you use for choosing the location for extracted files. At the bottom of this dialog, you can decide if you want to extract:

All files

the whole archive will be extracted

Selected files

File Roller extracts only the chosen files

Select them before you click Archive ▸ Extract…. Do this by clicking on the file name. Press Ctrl or Shift, to select more than one file.

Files

you can type the names of the files that you want to extract

The file name needs to be followed by a file extension. You can extract, for example, all .txt files, by typing *.txt.

You can specify in the file chooser dialog whether you want:

Re-create folders

Tick this option if you want to keep the directory structure, as it was in your archive

Overwrite existing files

If your archive contains files with the same name as those in the destination folder, then File Roller will overwrite them during extraction if this option is enabled

Do not extract older files

This option will not overwrite existing files with the same name, which have a more recent modification date than those which are in the archive.

These Actions are listed at the bottom of the dialog.

The option Do not extract older files is only avaiable when the option Overwrite existing files has been enabled.
